Chronic movie buffs have minds that bustle with a zillion clever ideas. 'Drishyam' (Seeing) itself, suspiciously, is the result of such. Its protagonist uses ideas from the movies he’s watched to continuously outfox the entire police outfit.
Cable TV owner, Georgekutty (Mohanlal), has been schooled only up to standard four and does not read the daily news. But he’s good natured, and knows everyone and everything. On a day when he isn’t at home, his wife Rani (Meena) and daughters Anju (Ansiba) and Anu (Esther) get their hands dirty. Something terrible happens by accident that shouldn’t have.
The success of the scripting and dialogues lies in its effectiveness in empathizing with the common man. The wife and kids desire a better lifestyle. But the man of the house is a little tight with his purse, for he has larger hopes and dreams. They are an ordinary family which commits a mistake that could happen to anyone and find themselves locked up in an inescapable situation. The antagonist here is the supposed enforcers of the laws.
The opening take is very long, and stylish; and seemingly meaningless. The camera stares at the passengers in a moving bus till all the credits roll up the screen. Then, it gets down, and follows a man. When he enters a teashop, the camera walks around him, and observes his expressions as he orders a tea and converses. What the cameraman found so interesting in a bit actor may appear as something of a mystery. Until one realizes: it’s just the producer doing a cameo.
The shots when people are seated around a table are unimaginative; mostly static. And ensure that some of the actors shift uneasily in their seats, clueless on what they ought to be doing with their hands. The lighting on certain occasions adds to the comedy: the hot fumes from the HMI bulbs actually float over the heads of the actors.
Keeping with the circumstances, the mother and daughters change the color of their respective skins. Kalabhavan Shajon too, in the role of the bad guy, a cop, puts up a striking performance. But the limelight belongs entirely to Mohanlal. Like the versatile greats of Hollywood, this actor possesses such a vast repertoire that he isn’t required to always attempt the radically new to stamp his towering persona.
Jeethu Joseph’s cat-and-mouse thriller, comprising elements that aren’t exactly fresh, underscores the necessity of street smartness and alternate sources of information, for survival. And sprinkles glitter on the megastar.

A sumptuous Biriyani may not always be filling because at times it's too starchy to be digested. This is applicable to Venkat Prabhu's Biriyani, which despite being fairly satisfying is not excellent because it gets too starchy due to unwanted ingredients. While the use of situational comedy works to some extent but what we see in some scenes is not humorous but downright awful and the double entendres directed at women are uncalled for.

I liked the previous works of the director because they didn't make you cringe with the humour, but you squirm in your seat as Karthi and Premgi rate women using a 'chick meter' and refer to them to some kind of object in this film.

When best friends Sugan (Karthi) and Parasuram (Premgi) venture out in the middle of the night for a plate of Biriyani, they set in motion events that make their lives go topsy-turvy. How a night of some fun and debauchery lands the duo in trouble? This forms the story of the film in crux.

I know it's strikingly similar to Hangover, but except for the waking up in the morning with a hangover, this film is different in many ways and that's a relief. There are quite a few funny moments in the film that make you laugh shamelessly but the inclusion of comedy in the most serious scenes force you to not take the film seriously and that's not how it's supposed to be.

One scene that immediately comes to mind is when the hero's friends help him find his missing sister. As everybody is delegated some tasks involving a little bit of danger and action, one guy asks: "Don't I have an action scene". It may be irreverently funny but it kills the mood of that particular scene.

If you have been following the work of Venkat Prabhu, you know this film is very quintessential. This one too has far too many twists with a battalion of characters that you could literally forget as you walk out.

Too many twists make the film unnecessarily complicated and leave you disappointed. What makes it even more disappointing is the inclusion of characters that merely have a few minutes of screen presence. Venkat brings back his all-boys team from his films Chennai 600028 and Mankatha for a special song, which only extended the already lengthy running time but didn't serve any purpose.

Karthi and Premgi deliver some laughs together but there is nothing new in the comedy, which has been tested-and-tried in several recent Tamil films. While Karthi as a suave playboy carries his role aptly with a dash of panache, his wing man Premgi is partly funny and occasionally irksome. Hansika and Mandy have no scope for performance and are purposefully used to provide some romance and oomph.

Mystery in films should be invisible to audience even in plain sight and when revealed, should take them by surprise. In Biriyani, it's the exact opposite and that turned out to be less convincing. Venkat has an obsession for portraying cops in negative roles. He has done with Saroja and Mankatha, and he does it again in Biriyani. It doesn't quite surprise me anymore as I knew it coming.

This Biriyani was in the able hands of a master chef, who probably didn't have the right ingredients to cook it.

Endrendrum Punnagai - Mp3 Songs

Movie : : Endrengum Punnagai

Direction : : Mueenuddin

Cast : : Jiva, Trisha, Vinay, Santhanam

Producer : : GKM Tamizh Kumaran

Genre : :  Comedy- Romance

Music : : Harris jayaraj

"Endrendrum Punnagai" is not a film about the lives of three friends; it is about one despicable, self-centered and maddeningly unreasonable man who happens to have two friends. Gowtham, Sri and Baby are inseparable chaddi-buddies who run an advertising agency together. Due to his Mommy issues, Gowtham has a strong aversion towards womankind and, for some reason, expects his friends to remain bachelors for their life. Due to his Daddy issues, Gowtham is not on speaking terms anymore with his Father. Time decides to test their friendship.

Gowtham is a self-entitled prick who wouldn't talk to his Father but continues to live in his bungalow and shamelessly drives around in a BMW which he could not have earned. I have seriously begun to wonder why Jiiva is so open to playing characters with a tendency to often be a complete asshole. I had same issues with how his character treated the girl he fancied in "Siva Manasula Sakthi". Most people who watched theat film for just its comedy didn't take offense because, to them, SMS stood for "Siva Manasula Santhanam". The way his Gowtham casually disposes his lifelong friends for something so petty, "Endrendrum Punnagai" only keeps giving you more and more reasons to hate him. Blaming his Mommy issues for his unreasonable and pathetic attitude is such a convenient excuse. I sort of know what it feels like to lose a close friend, but the film offered me no reason to relate to it.

With Andrea's Soniya and Trisha's Priya, "Endrendrum Punnagai" glorifies the preexisting Virgin-Whore dichotomy in female characterizations in our films. While one is an absurdly promiscuous woman who hornily bites the ear of the man she met for the first time a few minutes ago, the other is a pushover in Salwar Kameez who cries for something that's not her fault. Even within the context of its casual slut-shaming, the character of Soniya, besides being completely irrelevant to the plot, is made out to be a total bitch who halts a shooting of an ad-film in Europe for bafflingly random power trips.

In order to please the lowest common denominator, and because the male point of view is all that matters, the film continues to bash the wives for turning marriages into a living hell. One friend of Gowtham who was very much in love and hopeful before his wedding is now saying, "phone eh vai di, tortue pannatha!" to his wife of few months. Even Gowtham's Mother is referred to as the Odi Pona Amma by everyone in the film, including his Father. Who even knows what happened there? Sri and Baby reveal to Gowtham that they got married because that was his father's last wish. Then what about the lives of the women they are married to? They didn't sign up for a lifetime with sexist alcoholics. Why is Director Ahmed so deeply misogynistic?

At the end, Gowtham doesn't tell Priya that she makes him want to be a better person. Instead, he thanks her for changing him into a "nalla manushan". It's done and dusted, apparently. After all that he has done to the people around him, Gowtham is completely undeserving of happiness- not so soon, anyway. But because he is the "hero", the film lets him off the hook way too easily. He makes up with his Father and even gets the girl he so doesn't deserve. Besides awful product placements and useless America mapillais, it is the shoehorned character transformation that's keeping this love story from rising above clichés.

Jilla Movie Trailer

Directed by T Naesan, the film also stars Kajal Agarwal.

Vijay-Mohanlal movie JILLA is set to serve as a Pongal treat, Jilla’s sparking music would keep the spirit alive this christmas. Releasing on December 21, the album will have eight tracks including five songs, two karaoke and one theme song,as tweeted by music composer Imman on Twitter.
A one-line tweet from him-- ‘#Jilla audio from 21st december by star music #imman Praise God!’ -- on Thursday night, is all it took for fans to go on a retweeting spree, with the status fetching 200-plus RTs in no time.
This says much about the anticipation of fans for the Vijay Mohanlal starrer, which also has the Ilayathalapathy crooning for a melodious number along with Shreya Ghoshal. Whether it would race up the charts like Vijay’s previous musical venture - Google Google — is for us to wait and watch. To add to the anticipation, news from the sets is that the climax of Jilla with Vijay and Mohanlal fighting 40 stuntmen, was shot on a 40 acre field near Hyderabad, with a set costing `1 crore.
Meanwhile, furthering the fans’ insatiable curiosity is the dance number, which would see Vijay and Mohanlal reflecting their chemistry on screen. Sung by S P Balasubrahmanyam and Shankar Mahadevan, it is said to be the first song.
